cyndi, wow...you just got it all figured out, eh? i think that this blog is pathetic and a shame that there cant be an educated discussion without mud slinging. if you have any question about my identity, i should tell you that i am female and not an officer. i do know both thom and kevin and know that neither of them are involved with the nasty things that are being discussed on this site. i see each of them regularly and know that they are both drug free, honest and hard working. kevin is a single father and is not dating anyone nor does he participate in any activity that would compromise his integrity as an officer. he did go through a nasty divorce 2 years ago and that forclosure house that you spoke of was a matter of marital property that was waiting to be divided when the market returns. i am a woman who would never be friends with soemone who "beat his wife" and im certain if he did he wouldnt have custody of his children. your comments were clearly out of hate because i know he is currently living in a house that he is purchasing through owner financing because i am his realitor.
Thom enjoys his free time when he's not working and sometimes goes out for a drink with his wife. he has been accused of driving around drunk and i have heard the rumors as well but never have i witnessed him engage in any of this activity.
its nice that people are compassionate about this topic. it shows that people in this community really care about what happens but the nasty mud slinging is tragic. if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all. its really easy to say all of these things when you can hide like a coward behind a screen name. i suspect that the people who are saying some of these things have probably been arrested by either thom or kevin in the past!

Jerry, i dont think that you should allow some silly discussion to sway your thoughts on who to endorse. i think that regardless of some "cop hater" both of these guys still have alot to offer. i recognize that i should have never allowed and/or entertained diazk with conversation but it bothered me that he was taking personal attacks at these guys when he obviously has no idea what he's talking about! entering a battle of wits with a man who is obviously unarmed is a mistake and i certainly wont make that mistake again!

i have to agree with deuce. i know both guys (Hennings & Carr) and prior to diazk bringing drama to this blog, i thought that there were some good points made about those guys. ofcourse you are going to have the mud slinging because of the topic and the fact that some havent always fallen on the right side of the law but we need to put those comments in the garbage and press on with intelligent conversation! i do think that Hennings & Carr should be afforded the opportunity to make the final cut and be heard prior to being ruled out for the position. if at that point, it is determined that there is someone from out of town that would suit the city/department better then so be it! they are both VERY well qualified for the job- but in different areas...the city manager has his work cut out for him but let us not forget the times that we needed these two in the past 8 or 9 years and they have been there for us! we atleast owe them that much to give them a chance!

first, i really cant definitively say anything bad about Carr because nothing has been substantiated against him and this island is all about rumors...also, i do know Hennings and think that he would do a great job as well if given the chance. if there was a breaking point that i had, i would have to say that i dont like the fact that Carr and most of the other applicants are so old and probably just going to leave in a couple years. i think that we are starving for consistency in this city and that will only come from a younger candidate. I think that Hennings and Carr could both do a good job and they are both good officers. diazk has successfully made a machary out of this blog site and topic and that is a shame! i hope they both get a shot in the finals and may the best man win!

i would LOVE to see you at happy hour but i thought that all of the Walmart greeters were mandated to work during that time?...and if you hang out at Porky's that explains everything! maybe you should apply for chief...lol...and btw, i wasnt checking your grammar (not grammer), i was checking your spelling, dummy! this blog is hilarious...this isnt an election, its an appointment! anything that anyone puts on here is just to get a rise out of another person because it doesnt matter...

hey diazk, opinion is spelled O-P-I-N-I-O-N...I hope you didnt have to take a test to get your job! besides when was the last time CARR or HENNINGS went to your work and told you how to do your job as a Walmart door greeter? get a clue and tell the person who is helping you read to give all of the points in this blog! your ignorance, as well as illiteracy is comical. im sure if Carr was as much of a drunk that everyone says he is then he wouldnt have been a cop for the better part of his old adult life! furthermore, do you even know what you are talking about regarding hennings? he went through a divorce because he never wanted to be involved in that business that his ex-wife owned. in the course of the divorce there was a standard injunction that was later removed at the final judgement. this type of thing happens in most divorces (which is 1 out of 2 marriages). Also, all of the applicants resume`s are public record and if you look at hennings', you will see that he does have college just not a fancy degree but several supervisory and management schools that are applicalble to the position...im sorry to point out all of your inacuracy because i think that you make yourself look pretty dumb on your own!

the city manager is the "power to be" when it comes to hiring the chief of police. im not sure what fueled the comment that was made about Hennings not being offered the position based on a lack of education because that just isnt accurate. the article indicated that the city manager specifically stated that “I’m looking at the entire package – experience, education and accomplishments.” clearly that means that all things will be considered and not the lack of any one particular catagory. phlentyn, i think that you said it best when you wrote that it would be unfortunate if he wasnt offered the position, especially due to his "real life experience and a lot of commonsense"...i guess we can only hope that he is afforded the opportunity to get into the final review and be heard by the "power to be"...

this is stupid...not even news-worthy!!! you ran a couple stories, took some jabs at a cop and a complete investigation was done- exonerating the guy! would there still be an article if it were any of us in the accident? i know of a little 6 year old girl who was serverely injured in a jet ski accident around the same time as these two people and not one spot of ink has been written about her condition! TRAGIC!
