Dave Rice dusted his crystal ball a little better, taking over the top spot by winning the week. Rice went 9-4, upping his season mark to 38-22.

Don Healy, Dottie Weiner and Roger Raymond all were 8-5. Weiner and Healy slipped to second at 37-23, while Raymond is 33-27. Weiner had an upset pick in Chicago over Philadelphia, then got stiffed when she took Arizona as Brett Favre threw for six touchdowns for the New York Jets.

The most significant game this week is division rivals Washington at Philadelphia. Washington hustled its way to second place in the NFC East at 3-1, with Philadelphia at 2-2.

Weiner and Rice like the visiting Redskins. But Healy and Raymond disagree.

“Washington put it all on the table when they beat Dallas on Sunday,” says Healy. “There is not enough left in the tank.”

Raymond says the difference is “The Eagles will put up the points.”

Rice and Weiner must have been chatting as they also take Jacksonville over Pittsburgh and Tennessee over Baltimore.

Rice says Jacksonville and Tennessee have better offensive punches.

Raymond says, “Big Ben (Rothlisberger) will be the difference in the Steelers win and Baltimore is playing better ball and are over due.”

Weiner is the lone swami to stick with Tampa Bay at Denver.

“They are playing well defensively, giving them a chance to surprise Denver,” she says.

“Denver will bounce back after a fluke loss to Kansas City,” Raymond counters.

“Denver will refuse to be embarrassed this week,” Rice says.

None of the swamis take Miami at home over San Diego.

“Miami has been looking good, but San Diego has the horses,” says Healy.

Rice thinks San Diego’s running back LaDainian Tomlinson is back to 100 percent and that should doom the Dolphins.

The readers Pigskin Picks winners last week were Jim Taylor, Tom Gailunas, John McNeese, Richard Walker and Tom De Moss.
