YMCA summer day camp
Here comes the 2008 edition of the Marco Island YMCA Summer Camp! Get ready for a “Funtastic” Summer! Join us for another fun filled summer packed with games, sports, field trips, and exciting “Fun Fridays.” Exciting your creative side, meet new friends, and enjoy water days with the YMCA.
We have new themes, new games, and new parties planned! Registration now open.
Important dates to remember:
Summer camp dates: June 2 to August 15
Summer camp hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Summer Camp is for grades K-2 and 3-6. Both Camps will meet at the South end of the YMCA for pick up and drop off.
There are 11 exciting theme weeks for the K-2 campers and the 3-6 grade campers.
Payment options:
To fit the needs of all our participants we offer several different payment methods. We accept cash, check and Visa and Mastercard.
Member: M - Non-member: NM
Full summer (paid by May 28): $700(M) $700 (NM)
Sibling Rate: $675(M) $675 (NM)
Weekly rate-Full days: $80(M) $90 (NM)
Sibling Rate: $70 (M) N/A for NM
Weekly Rate- half day: $60(M) $70(NM)
Daily Rate (Must Pre-register): $20(M) $25 (NM) (Field trip days please add $7)
Full Summer and Weekly (full day) includes 3 weekly field trips
No refunds will be accepted after 15 days of session start date. Parent manuals are available at the Customer Service desk.
Children must be 5 years old by June 1. Children are placed pending on the grade they are entering in school.
Summer employment
The YMCA has two summer camps that meet the needs of over 400 children in our area. We have two campuses: The Marco Island YMCA and Manatee Elementary School. We are seeking energetic staff to provide a loving and high energy program for our children. We do require a mandatory pre-camp training and weekly trainings throughout the summer. All applicants must be dedicated and hard working to fit in our program. If you are interested in becoming part of our camp family, please pick up an application at the Customer Service desk or send resume to Stephanie@marcoislandymca.org. Positions include full and part time counselors, drivers, substitutes and lifeguards.
Summer Day Camp at Manatee Elementary School
Get ready for a “Funtastic Summer.” Join us at Manatee Elementary School for 10 weeks of games, sports and field trips. Explore your creative side and meet new friends. Summer camp dates are June 2 to August 15. Camp hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The camp is open for grades K-8. Breakfast and Lunch included. All this for only $15 a week! This rate made possible through grants and financial support from the Naples Children & Education Foundation, The Marriott Vacation Club Crystal Shores and the United Way. All children participate in daily English classes and participants get a camp t- shirt. Children must be 5 years old by June 1.
Specialty Camps
Summer Specialty Camps for 2008 are better then ever starting with “Zoo Camp”. The Naples Zoo and the YMCA have put together a unique, educational and exciting experience. Participants will learn about the different aspects of working in and operating a zoo. This camp is open for boys and girls entering grades 4-9. Camp dates are August 4 to 8 . You need to pay a $75 deposit to hold reservation for camp! Camp is limited to 15 students.
“Computer/ Swim Camp” is a new camp at the “Y” for 2008. This camp combines computer challenge games and activities in the morning and swim instruction in the afternoon. This camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3 through 8. Two sessions will be offered. The first session is from June 9 to 13 and the second from June 16 to 20. The time is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee for members is $95 and for all others is $100. Theater Camp returns for the seventh season but at a new location. All camps will be held at the Marco Island Players Theater located in the Marco Town Center. Three productions will be offered. “Clue, “Hercules” and “The Producers” The camp is open for ages 7 to 16. The camp starts off with a theatre workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 2 through the 6. The camps run through August
Cost for members is $80 for the workshop; others will pay $90. Each production camp will cost $135 for members and $150 for others. The Marco Island YMCA welcomes recording artist, producer Lee Brovitz who will offer a Guitar Camp for beginners and advanced guitar students during the summer of 2008. This camp is open to guys and girls ages 10 and up. The first camp is slated for June 9. The time is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the fee is $120 per student. These classes are open to the first 15 students to register and pay for instruction. Sign up now to ensure your place. Other camps that will be offered include:

Leadership Training (CIT)
The YMCA Leadership Program is a week long program designed to allow teens to develop the tools, skills and confidence needed to excel in leadership roles in their community and in a camp setting. The participants in leadership training will take part in daily workshops and apply their skills with the campers at manatee Elementary School. There will be 2 sessions offered.
Mandatory Training scheduled for: May 29 from 6 to 9 p.m.
May 30 from 6 to 9 p.m.
May 31 from 9 to 6 p.m.
Session 1 is scheduled from July 7-11
Session 2 is scheduled from July 21-25
The time is: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The location is: Manatee Elementary School Cafeteria. This program is open to males and females entering 6-9 grades. The fee for one session is: $125 for YMCA Members, $150 for others. Y Reads Program
The YMCA y reads program has recently added more students to this program to help targeted students increase their reading skills, self esteem and attitude towards reading. Volunteer tutors are needed that will be trained to meet the individual needs of the child. A minimum of one hour a week is required. Help the marco island YMCA build strong kids by mentoring a child. Contact Jan l. Rotar, YMCA reads! Program coordinator, 394 - 3144 ext. 275.
Tiny Tot Time continues at the “Y”
Sign up for Tiny Tot Time at the customer service desk today for this exciting new program for children ages 2 - 5. Allow your child to experience social interactions, learn basic kindergarten readiness skills, and enjoy music, arts, crafts, and many new games. This program will be held bi - weekly and began on Jan. 11. Don’t miss out on the fun!. A parent or guardian must be present. This program will meet on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and the cost is $5.00 per child.
“Skate upon a star”
Skate days at the Marco Island YMCA every Saturday sponsored by “Upon a Star Foundation.” The skate park will be free to members (your YMCA membership card must be presented). $5.00 for all others.

Skate Camp
The objective of this program is to help those who have not had skateboard instruction. The basic skills of skateboarding will be taught to help enable each individual to meet their best potential abilities. Please register a week before the lessons start. Sessions are limited to a maximum of five children. One session consists of three lessons. Skate waivers must be signed. Cost is $30 for 3 lessons. Others $35. The instructor is Mr. Hunter. Lessons are Mondays 4 - 6 p.m., Wednesday 4 - 6 p.m. and Saturday 3 - 5 p.m. For more information call Ginger at 394 - 3144 ext. 202
Co- Ed Adult Volleyball
Attention all area adults ages 16 and over! The Marco Island Family YMCA is hosting Adult Co-Ed Volleyball on Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the YMCA Airnasium through May 29. Only pay a one time fee of $15 for “Y” members or $20 for all others. All games will be officiated. Tell all your friends, neighbors and co workers to meet you for volleyball at the “Y”. Form your own team of six members, pay the appropriate fees and enjoy Thursday nights through May 29

Swim lessons with Miss Dottie
The next session of swim lessons with Miss Dottie classes will be held from May 5 to 15. All classes meet from Monday to Thursday. And cost for Y members is $50, non members $70. Marco Island residents may receive a $10 discount for youth swimming lessons through funds provided by the City of Marco Island. Must submit proof of residency.

The aerobics program for everyone! Young, old, thin, overweight. Water aerobics combines low impact with high resistance letting you burn up twice as many calories. Modifications can be made to your program as needed.

Kid’s computer classes
Kids 3 to 5 years old can attend the “Y” computer lab with instructor Miss Ginger on Wednesday mornings from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Learning objectives include; building creativity, enhancing communication skills, enriching vocabulary, problem solving, verbal and conceptual skills, developing listening, comprehension and communication skills. Software will include: colors, shapes, numbers and readiness skills, as well as language arts, phonics, science and math. The cost is $5.00 Per session and sessions must be paid in advance. Sessions are limited to 5 children.
End of the year bash — Hawaiian luau!
Join the YMCA Child Care Staff as we host the biggest event of the year! We welcome you to party island style with us. Enjoy games, prizes, dancing and refreshments while celebrating summer fun! This dance is open for boys and girls graduating from 3-4-5 grades. The dance will be held on Friday, May 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Marco Island YMCA Gymnasium. The cost is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The suggested attire is Hawaiian or beach wear. Parent chaperones welcome.
