Letter to the Editor: It’s a dog’s life

Dog lovers of Marco Island unite! The City Council has proposed a change to the ordinance which prohibits walking leashed dogs in the public parks on Marco. The first reading of the new ordinance should be at the May 19 meeting. Please check with the city to make sure that it is on the agenda for that date.

The more pro dog people attending the 5:30 council meeting, the better. For too long we have been the silent majority. The polls that appeared in the Marco Eagle showed nearly 70 percent of the people responding were in favor of allowing leashed dogs in the public parks.

Marco desperately needs a fenced in real dog park where our dogs can play and exercise off leash. This goal too can be achieved. Until that time, please come out and show your support for the proposed new ordinance. See you all next Monday!

Deborah Chapman, Marco Island

I thought our City Council didn't want special interest groups coming to City Hall Meetings supporting one point of view. Isn't that one of the reasons they put the meetings on TV? What if they do not agree with the Council's decisions? What if they boo the Council or murmer their disapproval? Will we not be back to that uncivil behavior everyone hates so much? I am going to follow Council member Recker's lead and stay at home. I have learned that attending meetings simply antagonizes Council members and they retaliate by voting negatively against any special interest demonstration. If you want your dog to pee in our parks, stay home or the Council may even propose a new position on the Island, that of dog napper.

Fossil,
Why do you think they are called public meetings? So we can voice our opinions.
Stay home because you don't have a clue

Good lord Fossil.....get real, the folks who know how to behave at public meetings and actually have something intelligent to say are welcome to come to the meetings. Those who have nothing to say or no beef with the agenda can now stay home and watch on TV if they care to. They NEVER said they didn't want the public to attend the meetings. Stop spreading misinformation!
