An East Naples man swimming off Tigertail Beach on Marco Island had his foot sliced by a boat’s propeller Sunday afternoon.

Daniel N. Krammer, 23, was swimming in the Gulf of Mexico around 3:15 p.m. when he was struck by a boat driven by Albert R. Negro, of New York, according to a boating accident report. Conflicting reports indicate that Krammer was anywhere from 20 to 200 yards off shore, acting Marco Island Police Chief Thom Carr said.

Negro was out boating with his wife when he saw two people swimming in front of his vessel, turned and then heard a scream, reports said. He turned around and saw that Krammer’s foot was bleeding.

“They were doing 15 knots maybe, 15 mph maybe and just didn’t see him in the water,” Carr said.

Negro brought Krammer on board, called 911 and started first aid, reports said. Krammer was transported to a local hospital with a laceration to his left foot.
