The Marco Island Baseball League was in full swing last weekend.
In the Rookie Division, the Yankees walloped the White Sox, 12-3, remaining undefeated at 3-0.
The Astros toppled the Mets, 8-4, moving its record to 2-1.
The Astros played the Mets on Saturday morning, weathering a few raindrops during the course of an exciting game, said Astros head coach Ken Moss.
“They played a good defensive game, today,” he said of his team. “I was proud of the whole team.”
Brooke Cleary led the team’s offensive momentum with two home runs.
For the Yankees Cameron Jones, Matthew Keegan, Michael Scola, Brian Kocak, Kezia Martin, Howie Jordan, Hawkin Jenkins , Brian Laurent, Jay Vanderjagt and Cameron Jones all rapped out key hits.
Kocak slammed his first home run in his young career, while Keegan and Martin had doubles and Vanderjagt a triple. Kocak ended his hit streak at 6 with a fly out, but Jones moved his hit streak to seven straight.
The White Sox are 1-2 and the Mets 0-3 on the season.
A key match-up after spring break is the Yankees playing the Astros at 9:45 a.m. April 12. The Mets play the White Sox play at 8:45 a.m. the same day. Both games are at Winterberry Park.
In T-ball, where scores aren’t counted, the kids, mostly 5-year-olds, are doing very well, said Andy Delgado, league president.
The Red Sox play the Braves and the Angels battle the Pirates, with both games at 8:30 a.m. April 12, at Winterberry Park.
In Minor League action the Cubs clobbered the Dodgers, 17-2. The Marlins and Cubs are 3-0, while the Dodgers and Indians are 0-3.
The Indians play the Cubs at 6:30 p.m. April 10 and the Dodgers battle the Marlins at 9:45 a.m. April 12. Both games are at the diamond behind Tommie Barfield Elementary.
