The Marco Island Charter Middle School had a scare, but won its fifth straight tennis match on Wednesday at the Marco Island YMCA.

Coach Connie Kormanyos said the team had a much tougher time in beating Gulfview for the second time.

The teams tied in the number of matches, 9-9, but the tie was broken when the Eagles won more games, 73-64, than Gulfview.

The team has beaten St. Ann, 8 matches to 3, with Kormanyos calling it a great team victory.

The Eagles downed First Baptist Academy, winning 8 out of 12 singles matches and 3 of 3 doubles matches.

The first time they played Gulfview, the Eagles won 10 of 13 singles matches and 3 of 6 doubles matches.

Its first win was over Naples, winning 9-8 in matches.

“That was a good first win for us,” Kormanyos said.

She said she prefers not to report on who wins or loses.

“At this age I just want the kids to learn the game,” she said.
