The third week of summer camp 2008 is behind us already. I don’t know about you but to me the month of June seems to be rushing right by and sliding right into the hot month of July!
All during the past week we got “Buggy about Bugs” with the K-2 campers and took part in Team Survivor with the 3-6 grade students. Field trips for the week included going to the Aquatic Center, Hollywood 20 Cinema — where we saw “Artic Tale” and “Night at the Museum” — Cambier Park and Coral Bay — where we played miniature golf.
The Summer Theatre camp was involved with the production of the play “Clue.” The performance will be held tomorrow at the Marco Players Theater located in the Marco Town Center. Performances are scheduled at 3 and 7 p.m.
Wesley Blassneck, Director of Computer/Swim camp, completed week one of camp with her students. The juxtaposition of learning Computer skills in the morning and swim techniques in the afternoon seems odd at first glance but the camp has proved to be a success. The students made their own swim progress diaries during their computer time along with software programs geared to improve their English and math skills. The afternoon was spent learning various swim techniques.
Lee Brovitz, our guitar camp instructor, said he enjoyed the first week of activities. Lee said the group was very open to his lesson plans and he is looking forward to the second session of the beginner camp that starts July 14. There will also be an advanced guitar camp in August along with Camp Rock. Be sure to sign up today for these specialty camps.
Sign up continues for the following specialty camps: Zoo Camp scheduled for August 4 to 8; Theatre Camp’s production of “Hercules” scheduled for July 14 to 18; Cheer Camp starts June 21 through August 2; All Skills Volleyball Camp starting June 23 to 27; YMCA Leadership Training scheduled for July 7 to 11; Scott Stewart Basketball Camp from June 23 to 27; British Challenger Soccer Camp slated for August 4 to 8 and Strength Training Camp to be held starting July 8 and August 5.
Junior Tennis programs available to you to sign up include Tiny Tots July 9 to August 11; Little Slam July 9 to August 11; Slam Junior July 10 to August 12 and Mighty Slam July 10 to August 12.
Swim lessons with Dottie begin June 23 through July 3 and sign up continues for the fourth week of Summer Camp 2008 that starts June 23.
It’s a “funtastic” summer at the Greater Marco YMCA, 101 Sandhill Street. Hope to see you soon!
