Versatility is the key to the Scott Stewart Basketball Camp and the All Skills Volleyball Camp at the Marco Island YMCA.
Both camps begin Monday and run through Thursday. The second session for volleyball is Aug. 4-8.
“There will be fundamental instruction, using a number of drills and using fun situations to apply what the campers learn,” Stewart said of his basketball camp.
There will be free throw contests, one-on-one, three-on-three and five-on-five competitions. Each camper will receive a T-shirt and there will be activity prizes.
Former professional player Reed Rawlings will be on hand as an instructor and will speak on basketball and life.
Stewart concluded a 10-year professional basketball career in Europe when he became the first basketball coach for First Baptist Academy in Naples in 2007.
His middle school team won the county championship, while his first junior varsity team played 10 games. First Baptist Academy goes through 10th grade.
“We went 1-9 on the season, but played some very good teams,” Stewart said.
“I’ve enjoyed the transition to teaching and coaching. I’m enjoying building teams with integrity and character.”
The basketball camp is $130 for YMCA members and $145 for non-members, for grades 3 through 12.
Jessica Miller, Palmetto Ridge High volleyball coach, will conduct the co-ed volleyball sessions, with a cost of $75 for members and $100 for non-members.
Participants will learn the game, or improve skills they have. Passing, setting, serving and rules of the game are the priorities for grades 4 through 10.
Both camps are in the morning. Call 394-3144 to register.
