League of Women Voters of Collier County announced the availability of the publication “Our Florida Government, Sixth Edition.”
Whether you are new to Florida or a long time resident, this publication provides a one-stop guide to the structure and function of Florida government.
The goal of the League of Women Voters is to empower citizens to shape better communities worldwide. They believe that empowerment can only come with knowledge, and that an informed electorate is necessary to ensure that the government meets and serves the community’s needs.
In just 60 pages, “Our Florida Government” explains the Florida constitution, the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of state government, some important state offices, the Florida education system, the election process, how Florida’s government is financed, and local government.
“The title of this book says it all. It is our Florida government. We elect the people whose job it is to make it work, we pay the taxes and fees that keep it operating, and we have helped to write its Constitution so as to ‘perfect our government’ and ‘guarantee equal civil and political rights to all,’ as it says in the Preamble to the Constitution of the State of Florida,” stated Sandy Parker, project manager, in the Preface to the book.
The book is available at www.lwvcolliercounty.org
