A family snorkeling program is being offered at the YMCA, beginning Saturday.
Marco’s Geoff Fahringer, a certified snorkeling dive master, is the instructor.
There will be two sessions for each program.
The first is at 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The first class is instruction and pool orientation to snorkeling techniques. This includes equipment information and usage, all elements of snorkeling, such as mask clearing, different types of kicks, swimming on the surface and resting drills, use of snorkel vest and surface dives.
The second day will be an open water dive, with all participants to meet at the YMCA at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 9.
This program is open to ages 8 and older with competent swimming skills. Participants under 12 must attend with a parent.
The next two sessions are Aug. 23 and 30. The fee is $45 per student, which includes student manual and snorkel certification card.
Participants are required to purchase fins, mask and snorkel. Vest is optional, however vital for younger divers and novice swimmers.
In addition, upon registration, participants are required to fill out medical history form. Register by phone, 394-3144, with Visa or Mastercard, or in person at the Customer Service desk.
