Some 50 campers are blazing their own trails at the Marco Eagles Sprint and Agility Camp at Winterberry Park.

While most of the participants will be playing for the Eagles football teams, however, all athletes are welcome, said Eagles President Greg West.

Heading the camp is Dan Principe, a nationally certified strength and conditioning coach, who is also Lely High defensive backs coach. He is being assisted by his father, John, who is offensive coordinator for the Lely Trojans.

The camp has four more sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per session.

“The kids are showing great energy in learning about speed, acceleration, agility and are working hard on basic conditioning,” West said.

Voluntary practice begins for the Eagles six football teams on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Regular season practices begin on Aug. 11. The first games are at First Baptist Academy on Sept. 13, with the Eagles first home games on Sept. 20.

Sing-ups for the teams already total 120 and 41 for the cheerleaders.
