Letter to the Editor: I see a pattern

I am beginning to understand the prevailing thought pattern on Marco Island. We think the Jolly Bridge is falling down, but no one else does. Therefore, we must replace it using our own funds rather those which we have been paying to state and federal authorities for years.

We have trouble getting our power lines buried at a manageable cost; therefore we must use our funds to buy the electric company.

I would like to continue the thought process so there would be more things to consider after our council is finished with the above minutia.

We are all aware of the lack of support that we received from the U.S. Navy during our recent anchoring debacle. After a year of hundreds (read five boats) of maundering sailors visiting our city, there was absolutely no response by the U.S. Navy! I purpose that our council establishes a study group to consider the creation of a Marco Island Navy.

We have had an unfortunate plane crash. We had an attack from an eight foot Python! And notice through all of this the utter disregard of the U.S. Air Force! I would like to purpose that our council establishes yet another study group to create a Marco Island Air Force.

I sense a continuing invasion, particularly by land, from people beyond our city borders. This must be stopped. We have all noticed the indifference exhibited by the U.S. Army! I would purpose that our City Council establishes a study group to create a Marco Island Army.

Now, I know I must be practical; these study groups will be manned by every resident of our island, leaving few to man yet another study group. Therefore I don’t think it appropriate to make any further suggestions at this time. However, I have noticed that since our missile tracking station was shut down, NASA has really not paid us much attention. It might be worthwhile to consider a MIASA (Marco Island Aeronautics and Space Administration). However, when this study group is established, I would like to suggest some Marco Island interplanetary pioneers for our first mission.

Herman Diebler, Marco Island

You sound CRAZY!!!
Did you get your meds mixed up?
This is the most ridiculous letter to the editor ever.
By the way it is propose not purpose, if you are not going to make any sense at all, at least use proper grammar.

Gee, happy—don’t you recognize satire when you read it? In regards to correcting Mr. Diebler’s grammar, he may have had “propose” in his original letter, and the Eagle’s staff may have changed it—who knows? I will say that this sentence from your post absolutely begs for a grammarian to correct it!

“By the way it is propose not purpose, if you are not going to make any sense at all, at least use proper grammar.”

happyonmarco, wake up. These proposals are no more ridiculus than paying for a bridge we don't need or paying to buy an electric company which we also don't need.
Put your Kool Aid cup down and take a deep breath.

Blondie: Please reserve your statements and judgements about an Electric Company until the research is complete. We need lower rates and we need revenue. If that can be achieved by owning/running an electrci utility then it should be looked at. The figures, statistics and information needs to be gathered first and presented to Council. Not until then will we know what we need or could use.

Happy and lauralbi1 the satire in the piece above seems to have hurt you both. Happy thinks that the thoughts being expressed are "crazy". He is correct. Anyone that thinks like that depicted in the article is crazy and should seek help. Unfortunately, the majority of our Council thinks this way. That's why the writer wrote the article. Get it? Lauralbi1, as for your statement that we need lower rates and "revenue". Speak for yourself. Our rates are resonable when one considers the customer service we get from this company. We would not require more "revenue" if our leaders didn't think up all these "crazy" reasons to spend more money.

Dear Beowulf: With all due respect, your comment above is spoken with sheer ignorance and apathy. When you do the research and have some facts, then we can talk. But until then, let the rest of us determine, via facts, what are fair rates. As far as revenue, again, you have elected to not do any studying or research to determine what a City of our size and make-up requires. So any comment you make as far as spending is unfounded.

Lauralbi1, sorry you can't bring yourself to admit you may be backing the wrong side again. Common sense tells just about everyone on Marco Island (some of us don't have that trait), that we are happy with LCEC and would rather it not be owned and administered by our City. As to facts, you have never once submitted to facts presented to you that contradict your position. So why should anyone go through the effort to convince you of anything. You follow Arceri and believe all that he tells you. Talking to you has become a real waste of time.
