They’ve had an early taste of success in their fledgling careers, now comes the opportunity to show ... and maybe enjoy a couple of sales as well.
Young award-winning artists granted scholarships by the committee of the Marco Island Center for the Arts will feature their work at the center during a three-week exhibition starting July 9.
It’s being billed as the Art Avante Garde exhibition.
A cocktail party and meet-the-artists session will run at 5:30 p.m. through 7 p.m., July 9, and is open and free to all, said Center Executive Director Christine Neal.
The exhibition is the brainchild of the Center’s committee, which decided to invite scholarship winners to return with the latest works for the exhibition.
“They bring something innovative and fresh to an exhibition,” Neal said of young artists in general.
As an example, she pointed out some submitted paintings by Jean Dornevil.
“He really uses vibrant colors,” she said.
Marco Island native Jarrett Stinchcomb arrived with four widely-differing examples of his work, one a caricature-like rendition of a bar happy hour scene for a friend’s CD cover, and another a striking depiction of what Stinchcomb says reflects a recent traumatic period in his life.
Neal said by selling the paintings, the students would be able to cover some of their study tuition costs.
They receive 70 percent of the takings on a consignment basis, she said, while the center takes the remaining 30 percent to cover costs.
The Art League, Marco Island’s Center for the Arts, is a nonprofit organization located at 1010 Winterberry Drive. Avante Garde exhibition hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Admission to the opening session as well as for the duration of the exhibition is free.
