Marco firefighters were called to the Plantation Condominium on South Collier Boulevard for a gas leak that required the building be evacuated on Wednesday.

The call came at 11:31 a.m. for a liquid propane gas leak in the building. Fire Inspector John Armstrong happened to be in the building checking remodeling being done and reported the leak. Due to most residents being gone in the summer, only six units of the 11-story building had residents. Less than 20 residents were evacuated.

Marco fighters responded, along with Isles of Capri firefighters, while East Naples firefighters manned the Marco fire station.

The gas line ran from the maintenance building on the lower level to heating equipment on top of the building. Firefighters were checking each floor to see what floors may have the gas odor.

At 1:15 p.m. firefighters were still at the condominium.

Regarding the gas leak... I don't know if it's got anything to do with it, but I was there that night and spotted a large man running around trying to get someone to "Pull his finger".
