I have been getting some very nice responds from you about this column. Two more that came in about last week’s were nice but did comment about how disappointed they were that no pictures of the items were included.
One said, “while I really enjoy the article a picture of the item really puts the icing on the cake.” Thank you but I guess there are times they just do not have the room for them. I would be happy to email you the pictures, just email me at redstier@aol.com and let me know what pictures you want.
I do not do appraisals, I do have people come to my home with their stuff and we try to get an idea of what it is worth by using one of the books I have. My issues have some age on them so as a rule the items could be worth more than listed in my books.
One lady from Marco writes in part, “Dear Mr. Stier, we have been a fan of yours for years, enjoyed watching your TV program. Several years back in NJ friends of ours gave us a box (...) saying it was an antique or very old. It is the original box, was never used and is called Noll Fly Fishing #151 DELUXE Kit and includes a paper back named The Art of Fly Fishing.”
I told her I have a Noll #50 Kit and went to eBay to see if any were up for sale. Found one, a model #101 Super Kit with a starting bid of $9.99. There were no bids yet but it had five days two hours left for bidding. I tried to find some more information about the kit by typing H. J. Noll, Inc., Plumsteadvill, PA in search but only got furniture companies.
Anyone out there with any information about Noll, please let me know. In the meantime I will continue to do some research about the company and get back with you.
Another gentleman brought me an old metal tackle box. The box was in poor shape but had several lures in it. Most of them could have been worth quite a bit but were also in poor condition only worth two to five dollars.
We did find one however that had some promise. It was a wood Creek Chub Ding Bat. Creek Chub made a Ding Bat, a surface Ding Bat and a Dinger model. We decided his was a Dinger.
Some of the hair located at the tail end of the lure was gone and the hooks were a little rusty but it could have a value range of 30 to 45 dollars if in excellent condition, according to the book Fishing Lures Collectibles by Dudley Murphy and Rick Edmisten.
I want to remind you Florida Antique Tackle Collectors (FATC) International Tackle Show is right around the corner. Open to the public one day, Feb. 23 at Plaza Resort & Spa, 600 North Atlantic Ave. Daytona Beach, FL.
As always there will be free tackle appraisals for the public. Also, they will put your items in their auction if you would like for a small fee.
This is the largest show of the four they hold each year offering more than 400 display tables. FATC has more than 400 members at my last count from all over the US., Canada and other countries.
Some of the items brought to the show for appraisals include lures, rods, reels, tackle boxes and just maybe a one of a lifetime item that stuns the pros at the show.
You may visit their website www.fatc.net or email the show’s host Larry Lucas at larry@flowerscentral.com for more information.
Good news, just in from the Marco Eagle, we will try to get some of last week’s pictures and the Creek Chub Dinger in this article. Who says the Eagle does not listen to its readers?
Good hunting!
