Marco traffic victim upgraded to good condition

Police call for witnesses; report might not be complete until end of month

Jeanne O’Hea, the victim of a collision that ended the life of her husband, Alan, as they were crossing Bald Eagle Drive, has been upgraded to good condition at Lee Memorial Hospital. O’Hea, 69, underwent surgery following the Dec. 30 collision, when she and Alan O’Hea, 72, were struck by a white Honda Civic.

The O’Heas are residents of both Brooklyn, N.Y., and Marco Island.

No charges have been filed against the driver, 23-year-old Luke Vergo, a Marco resident.

The Dec. 30 collision is still under investigation, said Marco Police Chief Roger Reinke, who added that the police are still seeking possible witnesses of the accident or the night’s surrounding events. Investigators are still trying to piece together the details of what happened leading up to and during the collision, which occurred just before 8:30 p.m.

Toxicology reports could take up to 30 days to come back, Reinke said, which means it might be the end of the month before investigators have answers for the public.

Reinke urged anyone with details of the crash to call the Marco Island Police Department at 389-5050.
