The Marco Island YMCA continues to buzz with activity as the snowbirds continue to flock to our beautiful tropical paradise.

The YMCA also have snowbirds on our staff, those wonderful men and women who teach various classes here on Marco and then head back to — wherever.

A new aerobics instructor at the “Y” is Angela Hinton who teaches Cardio/Strength on Wednesday and Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Angela has been an American Aerobics Association International (AAAI) certified instructor for over 20 years. Try her class one time and you will be hooked!

Speaking of aerobics, the Y has added and changed a few classes. Kathy’s Monday and Wednesday 4:00 p.m. class now is one and a half hours long and is titled Strength Training with Abs & Back. Lynne has started a beginning Yoga class which meets on Wednesday from 11 to 11:55 a.m. and Kathy has also added a Yoga Groove class which meets twice a month on Saturdays from 10 to 10:55 a.m. In the month of February the class will meet on the 9 and 23.

Also during February there will be a number of things to do at the Y.

Bingo every Tuesday; Mah-Jongg classes start up again on the 13; computer classes for adults and children; Charter School Intramural Co-ed Football; and Flag Football. Special events include Parents Nite-out (tonight); Daddy-Daughter Sweetheart Dance on Valentine’s Day; and Teen Social on Feb. 15. Carnation Night: for only a buck, send carnations through the DJ to friends and significant others.

Adult Co-ed Volleyball wraps up its winter league on Feb. 20 with the Championship game and don’t forget to sign up for the spring session; the cost is only $75 for individuals or $300 for your entire team. If you have a business and want to sponsor a team, the cost is only $300 and your name will be on the team shirts and in the publicity announcements. Call Gina Sisbarro Blassneck at 394-3144 ext 227 to sponsor a team or for more information about the schedule and rules.

Morning child watch hours have changed with new start time of 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. If you are coming to the Y you can have your child supervised while you are on the premises. No charge for family members; $3 for adult members and $5 for day pass folks.

The Tennis Department has announced the popular Sony Ericsson Tennis Tournament bus trip to Key Biscayne. Only 52 seats available. The trip is scheduled for March 31 (Monday). Cost is $70 for members and $75 for non members. If you want to go, sign up now!

An excellent advertising/sponsorship opportunity awaits you at the Marco Island YMCA. Sign up for a full year of community exposure! There are many levels of sponsorship available. Call me and I will give you the information. My number is 394-3144 ext. 228.

The Marco Island YMCA Expo will be held March 1 inside the YMCA Gym. Plan on attending and learn more about the various programs the Y has to offer and be eligible to win great door prizes. I’ll write more about the Expo in future columns.
