Vibrant oils and watercolors translated to hard cash for scholarships when paintings done by 20 local artists went on auction Jan. 31 after a day-long session by the artists at various Marco Island locations.
The function, called Wet Paint Live, raised around $10,000 gross, half of which will be placed in a scholarship fund to help local students. The brainchild of Leadership Marco alumni -— under the auspices of the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce — the auction attracted about 100 people, 23 of whom were bidders.
Successful offers on the paintings ranged from $125 to $1,400. By arrangement, the artists themselves receive half of the money
