FORT MYERS The Lakeland Flying Tigers put up five runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 7-5 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on Tuesday night.
The Miracle rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the first on Johnny Woodard’s three-run home run and Danny Lehmann’s RBI single, but never led in this one.
Lakeland added some insurance runs in the sixth when Carmelo Jaime singled home a pair.
The Miracle threatened in each of the final two innings. Wilson Ramos’ RBI single brought Fort Myers within two at 7-5 in the eighth, but Woodard struck out with runners on second and third. In the ninth, Fort Myers had the tying runs on base with two outs, but Juan Portes flied out to end the game.
The Miracle and Flying Tigers will play a doubleheader at 5 today at Hammond Stadium. It is a makeup of Friday’s game in Lakeland, which was rained out.
