Marco Eagle:

Do all your friends roll their eyes when you start talking about words? Do they make a face every time you correct their grammar? Do you blow through the daily newspaper’s crossword puzzles, waiting for the big one on Sunday, while saying it’s “the only one worth doing?”

If this is the case, you might just want to seek out kindred spirits who share your obsession. The Jolly Roger Crossword Club meets at 5:45 p.m., every Wednesday, at Vandy’s/5 Brothers restaurant, on Elkcam Circle, Marco Island. Information: 394-2722 or 394-1335.

Magic is in the air. Award-winning master magician Scott Humston presents a free show, The Wonder-Full Weekend, at 7 p.m., Aug. 29 and 30 at Naples First Church of the Nazarene, 3100 Bailey Lane.

More than just entertainment, this is a motivational program growing out of 20 years of success in schools across the United States. Through the use of music, magic, comedy and involvement, students learn the importance of honesty, respect, self-esteem, cooperation and responsibility.

Overcoming a cleft-palate birth defect to become a full-time speaker and performer, Humston now devotes his life to the art of educating through entertainment. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and dramatic arts, and has been awarded professional and community awards for his encouragement to young people. Humston entertains, motivates and inspires hundreds of audiences each year. “I’ve always had a desire to inspire people,” Humston says. Information: 263-2115.
