NAPLES The three candidates for Collier County sheriff continued their record haul, raising campaign money all the way through Thursday, the last day to raise donations for Tuesday’s primary election.
Former Collier Undersheriff Kevin Rambosk again led the pack, bringing in $14,300 and $4,274.29 of in-kind donations between Aug. 2 and Aug. 21, the final reporting period of the campaign, according to reports from the Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office.
In total, Rambosk raised $165,011.50 since announcing his candidacy in October, more than twice the amount of his closest competitor.
Rambosk raised more campaign money than any other local candidate in Collier history, far surpassing Sheriff Don Hunter’s previous record of $103,000 in the 2000 election.
Private investigator Victor Ortino raked in an additional $5,595 and $1,717.68 of in-kind donations during the last reporting period, raising his campaign total to $76,982.83 since announcing his candidacy in March 2007.
Local businessman Vinny Angiolillo donated another $5,597.17 to his own campaign, bringing his total to $25,023 since announcing his candidacy in October.
Angiolillo contributed every cent of his campaign money himself.
Not only did Rambosk lead the pack in contributions, but he led in expenditures as well, spending $58,765.87 during the last reporting period and $156,928.53 total.
Much of that was spent in the last period on advertising, including advertisements in the Daily News, radio ads and television commercials on FOX 4, WINK-TV and on Waterman Broadcasting stations.
Ortino spent $8,067.55 during the last reporting period, with most of that going to mailings and commercials on Telemundo, Waterman Broadcasting stations, and other radio and television stations.
Ortino spent $72,391.79 during his campaign.
Angiolillo spent $3,867.17 during the last period on signs, lumber and pens. He spent $22,015.31 during his campaign.
The candidates can continue to spend campaign money up until polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
