Marco Presbyterian installs new pastor
The Suncoast Presbytery will officially install the Rev. Bill Lyle, as pastor of Marco Presbyterian Church, at the 6 p.m. worship service Sunday.
Lyle became the senior pastor March 1, joining assistant pastor, the Rev. Jonathan M. Loerop, former senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. Bruce R. Fiol, known for his stirring Easter Sunrise Service messages, retired after 25 years of service.
Lyle was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a B.A. in political science with minors in business and theatre with extensive studies in computer science. He received his masters of divinity in 1990 from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi and is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He is currently working on his doctorate at New Geneva Seminary in Colorado Springs.
Lyle served as pastoral intern at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, Alabama; assistant pastor and interim senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, Mississippi; pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, Alabama; senior pastor at Christ Church in Jacksonville, Florida; and most recently at Parkview Church in Lilburn, Georgia.
Pastor, professor, author, and Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), the Rev. Dr. L. Roy Taylor will officiate. He will also give the sermon at both the 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. worship services.
Taylor’s morning sermon will emphasize “the hope Christ offers to people in the most hopeless situations of life.” In the evening he will focus on how a relationship with God is best cultured and developed in the life and community of the Church.
“Bill comes to Marco Island sharing the same life-transforming message of Christ’s grace and with the intention developing the nurturing life of Christian community through people’s relationship with God and with each other in the Church,” said Taylor.
Taylor participated in several significant events in Lyle’s ministry. He was on the theological examinations committee that certified him for ordination when he began his ministry in 1991.
“I have followed his ministry with interest over the years, having preached in each of the successive churches he has served in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. We have worked together on the denomination’s Standing Judicial Commission, which deals with conflict resolution in churches,” said Taylor.
Taylor has been a minister of the Presbyterian Church in America since its inception in 1973.
The community is invited to both services. A desert reception will follow the installation service. The church is located at 875 West Elkcam Circle.
