A sunny weekend, with friendly winds, produced some great racing for the annual Bud Light Regatta, hosted by the Sailing Association of Marco Island (SAMI) over the weekend.
The late Jim Dock would have been proud of wife Barbara, whose boat, Cracker Jack, raced to an overall first place finish in the Non-Spinnaker Division. Dock died in a cycling accident just before the Regatta which was dedicated in his name.
Captaining Cracker Jack was Jim Grenauer, with mates David Carpino, Bob Robinson and Arnie Kirleis.
“Second was no option,” Kirleis said. “He was everyone’s friend and it was my way to say goodbye (by helping to win the race).”
Joe Bonness led his Maria crew to an overall first-place finish in the Spinnaker Division.
Class winners were:
Maria, Class A — Spinnaker A Fleet; Midnite Rider, Class B — Spinnaker; Obsession, Class C — Sport Boat Fleet; Tri-Power, Class D — Multihull Corsair 24 Fleet; Cracker Jack, Class E — Non-Spinnaker Fleet; Jabu, Class F — True Cruising Fleet.
Vice Commodore Steve Fleischer acknowledged the Publix stores on Marco for provisioning the committee and other official boat crews.
