The Eagles are flying high after two wins. They topped previously undefeated Community School of Naples and First Baptist Academy.

After being rocked by Community School the first time the teams played, the Eagles edged the Seahawks at Community School, 6-5.

“Good fielding work by all and only three errors finally had the Eagles playing up to their potential,” manager Alex Galiana said.

However, the win didn’t come easy.

The Seahawks took an early 3-1 lead only to see the Eagles put up three in the third and one in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. The Seahawks tallied a run in the fourth to tighten the game at 5-4, but the Eagles added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Joe Marinaro brought home Kit Fowler.

It turned out to be the run they needed as Community scored in its last at-bat, with Fowler pitching out of a jam to gain the save.

Luke Bergen pitched a strong 5 1/3 innings for the win. Twice Bergen worked out of bases-loaded situations, giving up just one run each inning.

Alex Jerrett knocked out two hits, Matt Gerhardsetin slammed a two-run double and Marinaro drove in another RBI after a perfect bunt by Reno Landers, Galiana said.

The FBA win came at the Eagles Homecoming on Friday.

Galiana said his team started out sluggish, making three errors which provided FBA’s only run as the Eagles won easily, 15-1.

Patrick Doyle kept FBA in a hole as he allowed just one hit and two walks.

Bergen helped the cause with three hits and five RBI. Kenny Moss plated four runs on two doubles, Fowler knocked in four runs on two hits and Jerrett added two hits, while also plating a run.

In the homecoming game for the junior varsity the Eagles upped their record to 4-0, knocking off FBA, 12-8. Sean Lampos and Greg Trzyna provided strong pitching and Trzyna led the team with three hits including a double. Jeff Leonia had two hits, including a double for the Eagles.

The Eagles varsity hosts Community School Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
