Letter to the Editor: Good read
Tommie Barfield Elementary School would like to thank the many community members who took time out of their very busy schedules to come and read to our students in celebration of “Read Across America” on March 28. We admire them for their efforts in helping TBE with our commitment to promote literacy in our students and families. This event culminated a week worth of reading events including our “Race to Read” read-a-thon.
Our sincerest thanks go to Marco Councilman Rob Popoff; MIPD officers Lofy, Guyer, Beucler and Lt. Pena; Marco Fire Chief Mike Murphy; Schoolboard member Pat Carroll; Marco Chamber of Commerce Maryanne Cofer and Supervisor of Elections Jennifer Edwards. Others included Under Sheriff Kevin Rambosk, Ashley Shea of Regions Bank, Jeff Poteet of the Marco City Water Dept., and George Abounader, Charter School principal. Other community members who read to our students were Judy Gewirtz, Stuart Unsworth of Booksellers, Wendy McCarty, Kara Parks-Souza, Tom DiZio, Georgia Frawley and Emily Peters.
Remember, “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child.” – Dr. Seuss
