Golfathon to benefit homeless, hungry
The homeless and hungry will benefit from 22 golf professionals and others playing in the 11th Annual Golfathon being conducted by St. Matthew’s House on April 28 at Twin Eagles and Bonita Bay East Country Clubs.
So far more than 160 golfers at all skill levels, including professionals, have signed up.
“We still need more pros, as well as average players in order to reach our goal of 300 participants and thereby assure another successful tournament,” said Nevin Souers, event co-chairman.
Club pros participating so far are Jack Adams and Jorgene Barton, Bentley Village Golf; Mike Blosser, Moorings; Dan Bracy, Cypress Woods; Tal Buchanan, Heritage Bay; Andy Chambers, Everglades; Mike Dero, Quail Creek; Tim Harris, Vasari; Jeanne Gibbons, Country Club of Naples; Mike Girse, Glen Eagle; Nate Groce, Twin Eagles; John Lee, Imperial; Charlie Lostracco, The Classics; Dave McQuade, Colliers Reserve; Tom Metzger, Vineyards; Tim Miller, Wyndemere; Erik Peterson, Stonebridge; Scott Richardson, LaPlaya; Dan Sanderson, Pelican Marsh; Trip Stracka, Hunters Ridge; Don Tracy, Worthington; and Joe Yackamovich, Bonita Bay East.
Tournament co-chairman Bill Vonier said, “The Golfathon has special rules for fast play and participants attempt to play at least 50 holes in six hours. Each golfer is asked to obtain sponsors, based on the number of holes they play, or a flat sponsorship.”
Vonier said there will be free carts, balls, snacks, box lunches, prizes, a reception and evening banquet for each golfer and a guest. There are no greens fees. Shotgun starts will take place at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
