Fans of the late Southwest Florida radio talk show host, Rich King, were drawn to him by his spirit. That included — but was not limited to — his love of children, life and the underdog.
When he died in 2003, his fans knew his spirit would live on around us.
They get a welcome reminder of that in seeing the Ricky King Fund, named after his little son whose death from Reye’s syndrome prompted King to raise money for successful medical research in the field, living up to its simple, original goal: helping children and families with nowhere else to turn.
A compelling feature story in this newspaper told of John Stebbins’ courageous rearing of twin sons, age 9, with cerebral palsy.
He is illiterate, hasn’t worked in his construction specialty for two years and, thanks to his brother, lives in a small house with plywood floors in East Naples.
The Ricky King Fund has been there for him, providing money for essentials — about $2,000 in the past year for diapers and a wheelchair.

There is joy in giving and sharing; that goes double when you know the cause is good. See for yourself. Consider keeping alive the memory and mission of Rich King this holiday season.
