The school grades are, finally, on the way.

According to the Florida Department of Education, school grades will be released Friday morning. The release comes approximately two weeks later than it has in the past.

"It would have been nice to get them a little earlier for parents sake," said Lee County School District Communications Director Joe Donzelli on Thursday. "But we understand the process of going through hundreds of thousands of tests. We'll wait to see what we get tomorrow."

The delay in the grade's release has been attributed to errors in a standardized third-grade reading test students took in the 2005-2006 school year.

The test scores, which are inflated, are used in determining school grades, which take into account improvement by the school from one year to the next. The improvement portion of the school grade formula is known as, "learning gains."

For this year, in calculating a school's learning gain score, the department will either include or leave the faulty scores out, whichever results in a higher grade for the school.
