Voters rewarded District 2 incumbent Kathleen Curatolo with a second term.  Curatolo received 20,184 votes, or 56.03 percent, compared to her rival Rick MacClugage, who received 15,837 votes, or 43.97 percent.

Not only were they shown the way to their new classrooms, they were taken there by Principal Bob Spano.  Spano and other staff members stood in the entrance of the school Wednesday morning to help students and parents get to the right classrooms. “It’s the first day in the first year of a new school,” Spano said. “I guarantee you it won’t be this hectic next year.”

Several members of the Collier County School Board said it was time the board gets its act together before something worse happens. A report released by a four-person Quality Assurance Review Team recommends that the district’s accreditation remain on the warned status, and that a follow-up visit should be scheduled between Jan. 1 and March 31.

Manatee Elementary School improved its school grade from a C in 2006-07 to an A in 2007-08. “I am so excited,” she said. “We had the expectation that Manatee would be an A school. The kids kept that and the teachers kept that.”

The plan would bring solar power to Collier County schools and, specifically Marco Island. Elliott approached the Collier district with the idea. He has been talking to Thompson for months about the project, and the superintendent has offered Marco Island land known as Tract K as a possible site for the venture.
