A Spirited Debate
Posted March 18, 2008
Our band, Palm City Jazz played a very breezy outdoor St. Patrick’s Day event Monday, and a spirited debate arose regarding the weather changes that will be occurring in Southwest Florida once we get past Easter, so it got me thinking about some of the gradual lifestyle adjustments that happen over the next few months.
NOTE-We still have SEVERAL weeks of very enviable weather to look forward to, but many of the seasonal residents (as I learned) will usually stay in Florida through Easter.
Good thing-As we gradually get a bit closer to the rainy season, the winds generally get lighter, so the boating is better. (I had a number of complaints about the wind)
Bad thing-After 12 years in Florida I still don’t own a boat. And the few friends I have that own one have stopped calling me for some reason.
Bad thing-Obviously, as we get closer to hurricane season, I’ll have to make sure all my shutters are functional, and clean out the “critters” that may have nested there over the winter.
Good thing-As the weather gets warmer, I won’t have bathrooms full of neighborhood stray animals that my wife insists on sheltering from the cold.
Good thing-The golf courses will begin to get less crowded, so my pal Stan and I can tee off more regularly, and I can show off my skills.

And a final note for emphasis, NOW is the time to check your hurricane shutters. Don't wait until May 31st, when it's 90+ degrees. Take advantage of the remaining cool weather. Also, if you need repairs, they can be done well in advance of hurricane season.
