Joey’s Pizza and Pasta House on Marco adding bar, waiting area

Posted June 9, 2008

An extension now materializing at Joey’s Pizza and Pasta House on Collier Boulevard will eventually make waiting for a table a breeze in the busy eatery.

Owner Joe Oliverio, in business with the restaurant since 1996, said the addition is a bar and waiting area, while a second story addition is purely for architectural looks.

Coinciding with the tie-in of the addition, Oliverio said, will be a big renovation of the existing restaurant’s interior, necessitating temporary closure of the dining room from this week through about July 1.

However, he said, carry out and delivery services will be available throughout that time.

Oliverio said the addition will not add extra seating to the restaurant, hence there will be no parking bay issues.

“In fact,” Oliverio said, “we’ve obtained shared parking on both sides of the building after 5 p.m., so we now have twice the required parking spaces.”

Setback requirements also don’t come into play because the expansion was forward, Oliverio added.

Refinements within the restaurant will also include doubling bathroom space (including handicap access), Oliverio said.

Also in the cards for the restaurant is a full liquor license. It had previously operated with a beer and wine license.

Hours are 11 a.m. through 10 p.m., seven days a week.
