All Starbucks to be closed from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Feb. 26

Posted February 12, 2008

All right. Start making plans now. If you need a coffee fix between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February, 26 - you need to go some place other than the Starbucks.

Why? Well, according to this press release, the company is going to "conduct a nationwide education event, designed to energize partners and transform the customer experience." Uh-huh. Let's translate that.

Basically, it is going to be a three-hour refresher course for baristas to learn how to master the espresso machines (something they should know already) and get lectures on pleasing customers.

Apparently, Starbucks and its new chairman realize that the company has lost its way. And the company wants to recreate the "third place" experience the coffee hut is known for. Check out the comments on this Starbucks Gossip blog.

Press release says there are 135,000 employees in 7,100 stores - and there are about two dozen Starbucks stores in Collier and Lee counties.
