Simple lines at Simply Amish Interiors
Posted April 18, 2008
Fine handcrafted heirloom furniture comes from Simply Amish Interiors. I was amazed at all the pieces you can either buy or order here. Just about anything you need for your home from upholstered pieces that have a lifetime guarantee on frame, cushions and springs to mattress sets with a 20 year warranty.
And of course all the handcrafted wood pieces for every room of the house. "Amish" furniture is not a "style" as some presume, but rather a "quality" of workmanship. Each piece is made by a master Amish craftsman in the world's largest Amish community- Holmes County, Ohio. It is like taking a step back in time, I have been there. Very interesting to see how they hand craft all these pieces.
When I visited the store on 41 they had only been there two weeks, prior to that they were on Metro Parkway. I spoke with Monty Bates. He said they have six different catalogs to look at and can make anything from an intricate toy to a huge entertainment center that would hold the largest TV imaginable!
He said it takes 10 weeks for a custom made piece. For upholstery there are many fabrics to choose from and the woods are offered in oak, hickory, cherry or maple. Also is a choice of stains from light to dark. They do custom kitchen cabinetry of which there was a display...it was just beautiful! All the drawers are dove tailed and are self closing. Or you could have them build you a library. They recently installed a custom stair case. When you order a piece it is also installed by Amish usually a Yoder or Miller. Amazingly enough when I was in Amish country everybody was either a Yoder or Miller!
I saw lazy susan's in oak or cherry for $55.95. A beautiful quilt rack that was all enclosed in glass for $549. An oak hamper $219. They also make children's toys that work on gravity instead of electric or batteries, quite interesting. Very ingenious!
Simply Amish sells cleaning supplies to care for your beautiful piece, furniture polish, dust and polishing cloths and touch up kits.
The Amish are very good cooks. There are many general stores and restaurants in Holmes County. It is simple cooking but delicious. Simply Amish sells some of their cook books. The one that caught my eye was "Cooking with the Horse and Buggy People" at $10.95.
I was amazed at all the things I found in this store and Monty was very helpful. Go check it out.
Simply Amish is owned by Tom and Denise Rohaley and is located at 16309 S. Tamiami Trail in Ft. Myers. (across from The Forest)
