Blogs › Naples and Marco Island Fishing Report
Hope everyone missed me, back and ready to catch some fish.
Posted October 4, 2007
Good news, I am back and it seems I haven't missed too much. Fishing for the most part has not skipped a beat while I was gone. Night fishing still strong and daytime is good if you catch bait, but artificial and fly anglers struggling to get the bites.
Night fishing the last couple of days has been very good on the fly. The fish are taking one to two inch patterns that resemble white bait or threads. Caught 15 last night with the largest fish stretching out to almost 33 inches. Yes, she is till there, my anglers boated three keepers and all three went back to fight again. We fished Marco last night, but I am finding all the lights from North Naples to South Marco have nice fish on them. It does seem that more people are turning their lights off probably because of the increased traffic that the open of Snook season brings. Daytime fishing isn't impossible but you really need to work for your fish. There are probably more fish than I have ever seen this time of the year from the back to the front, but there is as much or more bait for them to eat then I have ever seen. Catching bait has been fairly easy except for the windy days when you cannot get out to them. It seems even on live bait you have to work on the fish it is definetly not automatic, again I believe this is due to the abundance of food the fish have within easy reach. They do not have to work hard so you have to work harder to make them eat what you are offering.
On to the Redfish. There were some running the beaches but haven't seen them on a regular basis. Typically they would be ganging up in the passes this time of the year but as far as I know this hasn't happend yet. Expect it anytime. Finding fish scattered from the outside in with the majority of fish coming from the outside bays.
Tarpon are here today gone tommorrow. One day it seems you can find them everywhere and the next they just dissapear. I am finding some on the beaches around the baitfish schools and some small and biguns all the way up the back country creeks. Just cannot figure out why one day it is good fishing and one day not so good, well I guess that is why they call it fishing. Well, sorry for misssing the month of September but I am back now and going strong. Good luck and good fishing. Roan z.
