Big Snook! Lots of Tarpon, You Gotta Love June
Posted June 16, 2007
Fishing this week has been fantastic, for my fly anglers they have been boating fish of their lifetimes. Huge Snook roaming the shallows are taking flies presented well, and if you just want to catch a bunch hit the points leading to the passes and you can wupp up on fish of all sizes. This is typically the month of the Snook and they are not dissapointing. The Beaches, the Passes, and the bays adacent to the outside passes and rivers are holding fish of all sizes. Get out and fish.
Live bait is available but hardly needed to put fish in the boat. White bucktails, Jigs, Topwater Spooks are tearing them up. If you find and catch the bait the fishing is great too.
Tarpon are starting to really get thick along the Rivers and the Passes. Early morning is the key to the bite for the Rivers and the Passes. If you haven't had your fill on Tarpon early, head to the beaches about 1000 yards off on the second trough line and be ready. Large schools of 100 fish or more are traveling both North and South. Find an area were you see them traveling and stay put. or atleast close. The Schools usually follow the same routes along the beaches. I sat on one area off of Keywaydin and had shots every 15 minutes on Thursday. About twelve foot of water seems to be the key depth. Roan z.
