Naples and Marco Island Fishing Report

Warm weather and Low water making for some interesting fishing.

Posted January 21, 2007

Fishing this week has been fantastic for the Fly anglers, with these low low tides there is a lot of flats exposed and the sight fishing has been fantastic. Bait guys are struggling a bit to find reds but the snook action around the passes is making up for it. All the passes are fishing like it is the middle of summer. Snook taking Flies, Jigs, and Bait with out regard for their health. This is happening all the way up the coast to Boca Grande. Red fishing on the other hand is a little tough. The Reds are all over the place but you have to keep moving and have a good set of eyes to catch them. Johnson Bay seems to be holding the lions share of them. If you descide to run there please be mindful of the shoals and the tide level. I watched Ten Boats Pile up just off the channels yesterday which is not good for the boats and even worse for the grass beds. You are not suppose to be running off the channels in Johnson anyway, so please be careful. The other players are out thier too. Plenty of Mackeral, Ladyfish and Pompano are being caught just off the Marco River and Gordons Pass. In fact all of the channels are fishing well. Backcountry way up the creeks a little slow, some fish but highly inactive. Trippletail are on the crab potts and heard some reports of cobia also. Well, I better get going have to fish a couple from Denver today, boy I bet they are glad to be in Florida. Good Fishing Rz.
