Water temps are dropping fast, not to critical level yet, but a couple more of these extreme cold nights and super low tides, could have some drastic affects to our fishery throughout SouthWest Florida. Winter has hit with a bang, here I thought we wre going to have smooth sailing and off we go on another night of plumetting temps. Fishing through the Cold has been available, but very spotty. Live shrimp worked along the bottom on a Jig head in the holes seem to be receiving the most attention. The problem is you have to work them painstakingly slow. There are some reds on the edges of the flats but they have even turned off the food, and when they do bite it is only half ass. Hopefully by next week I will have some better reports and some good news like no more freezes and no fish kills up the west coast of Florida. Good time to go and practice your fly casting in the wind. I know it is not popular but practicing in the wind is very helpful when you have to fish in 20 to 30 mph winds in the Bahamas, and don't even get me started on Tiera Del Fuego, when a light wind day is 30.
