Naples and Marco Island Fishing Report

Fishing Still hot for 2nd Week of November

Posted November 8, 2006

Fishing this week has been good even if the weather hasn't. It looks as if the second half of the week is going to have some good weather, let's hope the fishing stays strong. Fly fishing this week hasn't been easy but with all these islands to fish around there is always a lee somewhere, you just have to do a lot more moving around to find it. Bait fishing is a little easier when the winds blow and that is what I have been up to the first part of the week. Mondays Bait trip was a good one, left the dock at eight went out to Keeywaydin Island and found good sized white bait almost insantly. Set up and made one throw and I could barely lift the net in the boat, it sure is nice when things work out. Went about 300 yards and started catching Snook, Redfish, Jacks, among other species. I said if this keeps up it is going to be a long day. I do not usually fish full days but I new the weather for their second day was going to be iffy. Fished to noon and dropped them off to lunch at the Snook Inn with sore arms and a big appetite. After lunch we finished out the rest of the day with some bruiser action in Marco River along with a ride into the Back Country Creeks to add to our Snook and Redfish total. We were all tired but it was worth it, we had a great day of fishing and they caught lots of nice fish. I hope everyone undrstands it doesn't always go this smooth on the water, it sure is nice when it does.

Back to the Fly Fishing, the night time Snook bite is still good in the canals of Naples and Marco and the reds are still littering the flats.

CCA Redfish Tourney was a lot of fun Sunday. Winds were a bit brisk but good catches of redfish came to the docks. Unfortunately for my partner and I we couldn't keep the big reds on all the way to the boat and we only brought one to the weigh in. 1st Place went to Matt Mclean and Kevin Cardillo with two Reds Totaling 11.73lbs. 2nd place: Chris Turner and David Taylor with two totaling 11.17 pounds and Third went to Terry Metzger and Rob Will with 10.39lbs. Congratulations to the winners and all the teams that caught fish that day conditions were very difficult. The next tourney will be Sunday Dec. 3rd. Good Luck and Good Casting Roan z.
