Fished a Newbie to the Saltwater Fly World the last couple days. He didn't slam them but he caught his first Snook and Jumped a couple of Tarpon and I believe he is hooked. He was amazed at how difficult Saltwater Flyfishing was compared to fishing a small trout stream. I said, if you can become an accomplished Fly Fisherman in our waters you can just about fish anywhere in the world. I think almost all the pitfalls to fly fishing and difficulties can be experienced in our fishing conditions in one day in Florida. The key is not to get frustrated and just work through them. Another tip I have for the Flyfisherman, when you come to fish here and have never cast a rod larger than a 4 weight, please take some instruction and get out and practice a couple times a week for a month before you come. This will make your transition much easier and will start you on the way to catching much quicker.

Enough of that. Big Snapper from the passes to the Back Country are reported from Capt. Aldacosta. He and his son Rich put ten nice keepers in the boat this week and caught and released another twenty. There seems to be more Large Snapper this year then in the past. That is good news, it might take some of the pressure off our other species, like the Redfish. Fishing has been good in general from outside to inside. The Beaches are full of Mackeral and Ladyfish and even a few False Albacore and Bluefish thrown in for fun. The passes are producing good Snook and Snapper and the Reds are in most of the bays not far from the passes. Snook fishing in the far Back country has been just Ok, some nice fish but they seem to be very scattered this year and not bunched up as usual for this time of year. Probably due to the changing weather. Tarpon seemed to have shown up again from the passes to the back country. I guess because the water temps hit 74 again. I guess this will probably be short lived but get out and take advantage of it.

Bass fishing still on fire in all the canals. I wish I had more people that would want to take advantage of this fishery we have, oh well, I guess we will just have to stick to the Snook and Tarpon.
