Naples and Marco Island Fishing Report

The Snook are Jumping in the Boat!

Posted August 15, 2006

Fly fishing this week has been fantastic. Each trip seemed to be better than the last. Friday afternoon my client boated over twenty Snook ranging in size from 19 inches up to 34 inches. many of the fish came from Gordon Pass and the surrounding area. We even threw in two small Tarpon under the lights to finish off the evening. The fish were caught on flies ranging from small poppers to purple streamers. Under the lights at night the fish have been taking 2 inch white, yellow, and orange streamers. Fly fishing has been very good morning and night, just before too just after sun rise and sun set. In the Creeks there have been good concentrations of small Tarpon, anywhere from 5 to 50 pounds. They seem to have a fondness for tan and yellow muddler minnows.

Fishing with plugs and bait have been yeilding the same results. Saturdays Trip was no exception. I had two boys 10 and 13 from Sebring and their dad. Each of the kids Jumped Tarpon on plug tackle and one landed his first a frisky 15 pounder. They each had Tarpon on over 30 lbs. but were unable to land them. They caught a hole host of fish including Redfish, Snook, Trout, Ladyfish and Jack Crevalle. I think they are hooked for life. Well keep fishing and look around the outside bays and passes for your best results in the mornings and evenings.

Offshore is getting better talked with a couple of offshore guys and they said they are still catching plenty of keeper mangrove Snapper and are finding some Cobia showing up already. The afternoons are still hot for Permit. Good luck and Good casting Roan z.
